Mrs. Troutman grew up in and began playing clarinet in Pasadena ISD. Her band director was Damon Hilsmeier for 5th - 8th grade at Queens Intermediate. She played in the Deer Park Fire Prevention Community Band in 6th grade. Mrs. Troutman went to Pasadena High School, where her band directors were Ken Turner and Bill Gottschalk. She earned membership into District Band her freshman year, District & Region Band her sophomore year, and District, Region, Area and All State Band in her Junior and Senior years. She earned first divisions on her solos and ensembles throughout her school years. Mrs. Troutman was a member of the Pasadena High School Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Choir, and the Future Teachers of America. She was named the Junior Optomist for the Optomist club. Mrs. Troutman conducted the senior musical, Lil' Abner, at Pasadena High School when she was a senior. She also played clarinet in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar for the Pasadena Theater. Mrs. Troutman was a member of the Houston Youth Symphony.
Mrs. Troutman earned a music scholarship to the University of Houston, where she studied Music Education under Jim Matthews and Bill Moffitt. She was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and she played 3rd trumpet in the Cougar Brass. Mrs. Troutman was the Vice President of Tau Beta Sigma. She was in the clarinet studio of Jeffrey Lerner. She taught private lessons throughout the Houston area.
Mrs. Troutman worked in Pasadena ISD at Thompson Intermediate and Southmore Intermediate before coming to Clear Creek ISD in 1986. She began teaching at that point with Mike Barker at Webster Intermediate; a teaching team that lasted until 2010 with Mr. Barker's retirement. Mrs. Troutman and Mr. Barker came as a team to work at Brookside when it opened in 1998. Mrs. Troutman is the Fine Arts Department Head at Brookside Intermediate. She was also named Brookside's "Teacher of the Year" in 2013.
Mrs. Troutman is active as a clinician and judge around Texas. She is a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she is a leader of the musical group "Spirit of Peace". She plays recorder, trumpet, clarinet, and percussion for the group. "Spirit of Peace" has recorded two CD's with the producer of Destiny's Child. Mrs. Troutman has also performed with the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mrs. Troutman is married to Tom Troutman, a former band director and current Math Department Head at Sam Rayburn High School. They have a son named Jacob and a daughter named Kristina. Jacob is married to Natalie and they have 5 children. Kristina is 11 and a beginner flute player. Mr. & Mrs. Troutman LOVE to travel. They have been to Europe several times and have visited Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. They also enjoy traveling to Disney World in Florida.
